“The Oblates, faithful to the missionary sensibility of the Founder, are therefore ready to renew their openness to this service by responding to the appeals of the Church for mission Ad Gentes.” The Oblates who work in the mission territories within and outside Nigeria bring to the people their Lanterian heritage: the specific apostolates of the Institute are adapted to the unique conditions of the people who live in these mission territories. Some Oblates are directly involved in this work, laboring among the poorest of God’s people and fully dedicating themselves to this activity. Others share in this spirit, supporting the missions with spiritual and material assistance, striving also to create centers of missionary promotion among the laity. The Congregation sees this apostolate as a relevant part of its apostolic activities, remembering its past missionary activity strictly speaking when it accepted to undertake apostolic work in Burma and sensitive to the needs of the Church It commits itself to contributing “with all the means at its disposal, to the spread of the faith and to the establishment of the church (“plantatio Ecclesiae”) and, faithful to its own tradition and to the invitation of the Church, it “favours strictly missionary activity and cooperation in the style proper to the Institute.”
