As youths in the Parish conquer Abuja Archdiocese
In the face of the Political tension and youth restiveness in our country, Nigeria, leading to fear of the unknown and loss of hope, The Catholic Youth Of Nigeria (CYON) of St Mary’s Parish Tudun Wada had a remarkable outing on the 15th of July 2017 at St John Vianney Catholic Parish to dominate the Youth’s fiesta at the Deanery level where they emerged the best in the talent hunt and best in the quiz competition thereby becoming the defending champion of the quiz category. This achievement qualified them to represent the deanery at the Archdiocesan Youth Quiz competition which was well graced by dignitaries like the metropolitan Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Priests and various Parish CYON chaplains, the National CYON President etc. Rather than going after the Social craves for power, dubious fame and riches, these Youths have decided to channel their talents, gifts and ingenuities towards things that will take them away from violence and Youth restiveness that are prevalent in our society today. Again, these young men and women of St Mary’s deployed their talents to conquer the archdiocese emerging first position in the Archdiocesan quiz. They not only came victorious, the parish also clinched the recognition for the best individual performance at the event. The Parish Priest, Rev Fr. Paul Ubebe, OMV was so happy with these feats and used the occasion of their thanksgiving and presentation of their trophy to Parishioners, to urge Parents to encourage their children to use their God given treasures for things that will glorify God and bring honour to the family and society. Rev Fr Jeremiah Irabor OMV, the Assistant Priest and Chaplain of the Youths, was not left out of the achievements. He was always with the Youths right from their rehearsals, auditions and practices up to the main competitions where they actually triumphed. He urged them to organize more of such activities in the Parish to keep themselves busy with things of value while also creating opportunities for the upcoming and younger ones to follow. The Laity Chairman, Parish Pastoral Council’s Vice Chairperson and indeed the entire parishioners were so proud of the Youths and pledged their unflinching support at any given time.
Rev. Fr Jeremiah Irabor, OMV
