The annual General Assembly of the Queen of the Holy Rosary, Nigeria Delegation took place between December 4th to 9th, 2017 at the Lanteri House of Spirituality, Kwamba, Suleja, Niger – State, Nigeria. The assembly started with the arrival of confreres to the venue. There were lots of excitements from the confreres coming together from the different regions of the country. The opening Mass was presided over by the Delegate Superior, Very Rev. Fr Paul Ubebe, OMV. In his homily, Fr Paul encouraged the Assembly Fathers to embrace teamwork and cooperate in the activities of the assembly.
The 2017 Assembly with the theme: AFFIRMING OUR OMV IDENTITY AND CHARISM, had 25 confreres in attendance including the Rector Major of the Congregation, Rev. Fr Dave Nicgorski and two permanently professed brothers: Brs Daniel Damisah and George Erumetse. During the Assembly, different issues were raised; many observations, concerns and suggestions were made. In order to get profound into the discussions, the assembly Fathers and brothers were divided into 3 groups called “commissions”; Formation, Administrative and that of the OMV Religious Life. When re-gathered at the larger group, the different commissions shared their ideas, thoughts and proposals for the delegation council. Part of the things that were discussed by the different commissions were: Vision and mission of the OMV in Nigeria, formation programme, OMV identity, financial policies, projects, mission supply and mission appeal, international collaboration, further studies for some brothers, etc. the assembly sessions also witnessed the presentation of reports from different departments and functionaries. The planning committee for the 20th Anniversary of the presence of the Congregation in Nigeria gave a well articulated report. A committee for the building of the new formation house was equally set up to foresee the actualisation of the building of the new seminary at Ibadan, Nigeria. The Rector Major, Fr Dave, made some remarkable presentations on the realities of the Congregation and on Strategic Planning. In his presentation, Fr Dave talked extensively on the exchange of resources. The Rector Major did not miss any point as he helped us to identify and outlined the “weakness” of the Congregation and to proffer possible solution to some of the problems. According to him, we cannot fix all the problems but we could fix some of the problems. In so doing, the principle of strategic planning was well appreciated by all.
The assembly was also marked by some moments of prayers and Eucharistic celebrations animated with lively liturgy and loaded with powerful reflections by confreres. It was also a moment of fun and brotherhood. The Nigeria Delegation is, indeed, thankful to the Rector Major, his Council and the entire Congregation for their support thus far. The General Assembly came to an end with the presentation of the Resolutions as the official document from the Assembly. The Resolutions were entrusted to our Lady, the Queen of the Holy Rosary.
Very Rev. Fr John P. Idio, OMV & Fr Oviemuno I. Obi, OMV
