NIGERIA DELEGATION ORDAINS TWO AS DEACONS
As part of the fruitful vocation stories in the Nigeria Delegation, two of her perpetually professed brothers were raised to the Order of Diaconate in the presence of their families and friends on the 16th of December, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ilupeju, Ibadan, Nigeria. The Holy Mass, which began around 10:00am was presided over by the Ordaining Prelate, Most Rev. Dr Peter Odetoyinbo, the Catholic Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese. Upon the presentation of the candidates by the Delegate Superior, Very Rev. Fr Paul Ubebe, OMV, the Bishop elected the candidates for the diaconate ordination.
In his homily, Bishop Odetoyinbo, explained in detail the ministry of a deacon as servant, as he made reference to the greatest title of the Holy Father as the "servant of the servants of God". He said, "Christ came to us as servant and as a sacrificial victim. In other words, when we serve, we become like Christ. Dear friends, we are all servants; and a servant is a victim just like Christ who is the sacrificial victim. As Christians, we are called to be victims and not victors." Hence, he admonished the ordinands to remain servants and victims by giving themselves to the service of the people of God and pay less attention to material benefits. Speaking further, the bishop said that the evangelical counsels are for victims and servants and not for victors. Nevertheless, he urged them to beware of 'triumphant' way of living, because "a victim is never triumphant outside Jesus, the sacrificial victim."  The bishop equally urged them to promote, protect and preserve the Charisms  and the Constitutions of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary (OMV) by remaining faithful to Christ and His Church. Before concluding his homily, the Bishop expressed his gratitude to the family of the ordinands for giving their children as victims and servants of God and the people of God.
On their part, the ordinands expressed their joys as they gave thanks to God and the Congregation in general. Present at the celebration, were the Bishop, as the ordaining prelate, the Delegate Superior, other OMV and Diocesan priests, Male and female religious, seminarians, and families and friends of the ordinands. The was a colourful socials and entertainment of guests after the Holy Mass. Those ordained deacons were; Brs Daniel Damisah, OMV and George Erumeste, OMV
Br Gabriel Adanu, OMV & Fr Oviemuno I. Obi, OMV
