It was a great encounter as the OMV seminarians battled it out on the field of play with the Catholic Youth Orgarnisation of Nigeria (CYON) of St Anthony’s Catholic Church, Asipa, at the Oblates of St. Joseph, Opere on the 17th of May 2017. The kick-off began with the seminarians showing their skills and unity in the way they passed the ball to each other in control. In no time, about 5 minutes into the game, the seminarians scored their first goal. The Asipa youths on the other hand were slow to the game and were respecting the fact that they were Seminarians. As the first half was to come to an end, the Seminarians hit the goal post with another hot goal. Though sad at first, the Asipa youths were not discouraged. Some substitutions were made and at last the youths were awake. They scored their first goal and made all attempts to equalise. They lost a lot of beautiful and world best FIFA ranking goals including a very good free kick opportunity very close to the post.
The second half was a tough battle between both teams. In the end, the Seminarians came out champions. Present at the match were Rev. Fr. John Idio, OMV, Fr. Cosmas Amede, OMV, who was one of the lines men, Fr. Victor Nwabueze, OMV, the coach for the seminarians, Fr. Onyemeh Nonso, OMV, and some other Oblate seminarians. Youths and supporting team were also present. It was indeed an interesting time out in which people are saying they want a rematch as soon as possible.
Long live CYON Asipa!
Long live OMV Seminarians!
